Varna is the third-largest city in Bulgaria and its largest city on the Black Sea coast. Known in antiquity as Odessos, it is also one of the oldest settlements in the country, with history spanning several millennia. In fact, the oldest known gold treasure in the world, dating from 4600–4200 BC, was discovered in Varna.
