Innovations in Energy and the Environment (InnoEE) 2025 Conference

12-13 May 2025 Technical University of Sofia

Location

The InnoEE-2025 Conference will be held at Building 8 of the Technical University of Sofia, which is located at the southern end of the main campus. The building also houses multiple laboratories of the National Center for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies. A dinner reception will be organised on the evening of the first conference day at a different location. Details regarding the networking and social events will be announced in due course.

Inside the venue

The entrance is located on the north side of the building. Once you enter the building, walk all the way to the bottom of the corridor, where you can register (check in) and take your conference badge and welcome bag. Thereafter, take the stairway or the elevator to the upper floor. You will enter the hall named after Prof. Tsvetan Lazarov, where most conference sessions and ceremonies will take place.

Transportation from Sofia Airport

By taxi

Recommended if you travel with heavy baggage

Please follow the instructions on this link. Do not take random taxis to avoid the risk of overcharging. A taxi ride to the venue or the nearby hotels should take about 15-20 minutes, at a cost of about BGN 20. While many taxis accept card payments, some may still accept only cash, so a little pocket money should be prepared in advance. Cash can be withdrawn from the ATMs at the airport, which are installed in the public and baggage claim areas of Terminal 2 and the arrivals lounge at Terminal 1.

By metro (from Terminal 2)

Requires some walking and climbing stairs, thus suitable only if you travel with light carry-on baggage

Those arriving at Terminal 2 (regular air carriers plus Ryanair) should go to the metro station next to the terminal building, take the metro (M4 line), pass 7 stops, take off at the eight station called “G. M. Dimitrov”  (pronounced Gheh Meh Dimi-trov), and then walk to the venue/hotel (see below for walking directions to the venue, or the accommodation section for walking directions to nearby hotels). The journey between the Sofia Airport and G. M. Dimitrov metro stations takes approximately 17 minutes and costs BGN 1.60 (EUR 0.82).

Transfer between Terminals 1 and 2

Those arriving at Terminal 1 (low-budget air carriers, e.g. WizzAir) can firstly transfer to Terminal 2 via the free inter-terminal shuttle bus and can then use the metro. The inter-terminal transfer service operates 24/7 at thirty to forty-minute intervals.

The conference venue and nearby hotels are located within walking distance from the G. M. Dimitrov (pronounced Gheh Meh Dimi-trov) metro station, which is served by the M1 and M4 lines. The metro station has direct connections to Sofia Airport and the city center, where many points of interest can be reached from the Serdika station. Various bus, trolleybus and tram lines also operate in the city center.

Tickets and contactless card payments

The most convenient way to pay for trips in the entire public transportation network in Sofia is with a contactless credit or debit card. Alternatively, tickets can be purchased from ticket machines or cashier desks in the metro stations.

When using a contactless bank card (or NFC-enabled mobile phone or smartwatch), approach it to one of the blue devices, which are located at the left side of the entrance gates (turnstiles) in a metro station, or inside a bus/tram. A message in green will appear on the screen of the blue device, indicating successful validation. In a metro station, after the validation you will be allowed to pass through the gate. When exiting the metro station, simply use one of the exit gates (turnstiles), which do not require any validation to allow you through. (You only need to use your card or ticket when entering the metro station or bus/tram.)

A single-ride ticket costs BGN 1.60 (EUR 0.82) and allows transfers within 30 minutes from the time of issuance. If you use the same contactless card more than twice in a single day, you will automatically purchase a daily pass. The daily pass costs BGN 4.00 (EUR 2.04) and is valid for the entire public transportation network. You will not be charged more than the value of the daily pass for all trips in a single day. However, you are still required to validate your card at the blue devices. Detailed information can be found here.
